Workshops are an excellent way for both the beginner and experinced practitioner to deepen their understanding of yoga and practice.

The extra time given at a workshop offers an opportunity for investigate different techniques and methods that might not be offered in most regular classes. Below are only a few of the workshops offer. These offerings change and evolve as I continue down the path as both student and teacher. “Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own.” –BRUCE LEE

FUEL

  • Rocket Immersion Series for Practitioners and Teachers
  • March-April, 3 Sundays, 1 Saturday
  • Yogalife Studios South, Edmonton AB
Inject your practice with fuel and blast off. Fuel is an immersion series that will integrate you into the rocket yoga method. Rocket Yoga, also known as ‘The Rocket’, is a style of yoga developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco during the 1980s. Rocket Yoga is rooted in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice of yoga. It is combined with and restructured from the Primary and Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as well as key postures from the 3rd and 4th advanced series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This class includes modifications to all poses so that the beginner as well as an advanced student can be challenged safely in the same space.  Safety is emphasized as well as fun. When we practice the rocket the main goal is to fine tune our awareness to the subtle sensations each time we practice. For me Rocket has been my gateway to finding my flow state. What is that? Flow state is also known as the zone, it is the mental state of operation when we become completely absorbed into the task at hand. Where the world and the distractions fade away. Our judgements drop, and we begin to experience truly being in the moment, fully awake and aware. It’s not about nailing fancy transitions and poses, those are only tools. It was first called “Rocket Yoga” by Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead, because Weir said, “It gets you there faster”. When that is said the ego goes directly to bigger, better, stronger, bendier! That to me is not the greatest gift the practice has given or the THERE I am most grateful for. My “there” is when I am seat in meditation or lying on my mat in Savasana. For me the greatest moments of peace, alignment, gratitude and contentment follow my Rocket Practice. Every practice/meditation of course isn’t effortless or perfect, but I have found my tool to work my way there, I am so thrilled to share it with you and see you on the mat.

Each segment in the series will focus on integrating you into and breaking down the components of the rocket method.  The four week series will focus on foundations of the system, vinyasa, and the Rocket 1, 2, and 3 sequences. A mini manual will be provided at each segment with the corresponding weeks sequence.  You must attend all segments to receive all portions of the mini manual.

ROCKET FOUNDATIONS- March 17 2:00-6:00PM
Pranayama, Bandha, Drishti, Vinyasa

In this segment of FUEL we will look at the foundations of the Ashtanga & Rocket method.  Tristana; Posture, Optimal Energetic Flow, and Gaze, are essential to the practice.  These components are an integral part of the method and can provide a route to deeper levels of sensitivity and understanding of self and practice. In this Four hour segment we will discuss and workshop Pranayama, Bandha, Drishti. Breaking down rocket standing series and postures in detail. We are thrilled to offer the Rocket method of mat mapping and practical application to vinyasa, floating forward, back and through.

ROCKET 1- March 31 2:00-6:00PM
Folds, Twists, Hand Balancing Foundations & Inversions

Rocket 1 is based upon the primary series, it mirrors that sequence in a variety of ways.  This segment will offer you the opportunity to practice the full Rocket 1 sequence and then break down and workshop the foundational rocket 1 postures.  Begin to understand and identify the mechanics of folds and twists in your own body so you may apply them to your practice going forward.  The rocket system sprinkles arm balances and inversions throughout,  having a firm grasp on the building blocks of a strong and safe inversion and hand balance practice will be integral as you move forward.  To some it may seem that Rocket is about fancy transitions and poses, this segment will cultivate the understanding that one of your greatest aids will be developing sensitivity.

ROCKET 2- April 7 2:00- 6:00 PM
Hips, Backbends, Arm Balances and Inversions

Rocket 2 builds upon the foundations of Rocket 1 infusing even more opportunities to explore arm balances and inversions. This segment will offer us the opportunity to to build upon the foundations laid in the Rocket 1. Explore further arm balances and inversion variations.  Rocket 2 is based upon the backbends and deep hip openers explored in the intermediate series of ashtanga yoga. Experience the full Rocket 2 Sequence. This Segment is designed to offer you the opportunity to explore what optimal alignment means in your body, and progressive method to move toward what your fullest expression of the postures is without compromising safety.  Practice with power and compassion.

ROCKET 3- April 20 3:30-7:30 PM
Daffodils, Transitions, Full Expression

Rocket 3 is the culmination of the rocket series, a celebration of our dedicated practice every week.  Rocket 3 is the combination of Rocket 1 & 2 that closes the week, the series are not only combined but the breath count decreases to 3 breaths per posture allowing us to move through both series in 75-90 minutes.  Rocket 3 also is where you might see an insertion of postures and transitions we like to call daffodils.  These “daffodils”  offer us the opportunity to be creative within the framework of rocket, as we deepen our practice we can continue to explore and experience through new eyes.  This segment will introduce you to the additional postures and transitions, and provide you the tools to intelligently begin inserting daffodils into your personal practice.  This series is a favourite among rocket yogis, come find out why!

Calgary Workshop Series

  • 2 Workshop Series
  • March 22-23, 2019
  • Metta Yoga, Calgary AB
NAVIGATING THE EDGE – Friday March 22 6:30PM
Developing sensitivity in your inversion practice from foundation to flight

In This 2 hour workshop we will learn to navigate the edge.  The edge is an uncomfortable and scary place to be.  As adults we tend to avoid experiences and situations that put us in a vulnerable position. This workshop provides us the opportunity to get comfortable with being uncomfortable at the edge. Yes, we may fall down, we may stumble, we may fail. That is how the greatest lessons are learned. We may also find courage, strength, resilience, acceptance, understanding and even JOY. Join Danielle for a two hour workshop navigating your PERSONAL edge.  This workshop is designed to challenge practitioners from beginner to experienced in the same space. Expect an intelligently sequenced flow focusing on the foundations of hand balance with opportunities to workshop key Rocket Yoga inversions sprinkled throughout, followed by a deep and soothing savasana. MEET US AT THE EDGE.

OPEN HEARTS – Saturday March 23 12:00PM
Embracing the unknown through backbends

Back-bending often evokes a powerful response. Most either avoid them at all costs, or love to sprinkle them throughout their practice taking the art of the back-bend deeper and deeper. Chances are if you are part of that first group you may not have truly experienced them. In this workshop we will learn how to open the front body, strengthen the back, use the breath as a guide and much more. Learn to practice self acceptance, instead of struggling against your limitations where ever you may be within your practice. This workshop is suitable for yogis.

 Evolution of Flow

  • 25 HR Teacher Training and Student Intensive
  • May 3-5, 2019
  • Metta Yoga, Calgary AB

Join Danielle Murray for a 25 Hour intensive designed to integrate you into the sequences of ashtanga rocket vinyasa yoga. This student and teacher intensive will provide you the tools to practice independently and continually modify the practice in order to remain in alignment. To remain in alignment we are required to engage in the present moment. The alignment that we are speaking of is so much more than postures or transitions; This alignment is a process of learning to engage with your experiences as they are unfolding without labels or judgements. These practices and the repetitive nature of the sequences allow the practitioner to gain a deeper awareness of their boundaries through familiarity and develop sensitivity to shifts, resistance, and fluctuations over time.

To know where we are now, why, and where we are going, we must first discover where we have been. This training/student Intensive will focus first on breaking down in detail the foundations and roots of the practice; Ashtanga Yoga. We will dissect both the primary and secondary series so that we may  better understand the intentions, philosophy and sequencing. The training will help you develop a relationship with the 3 rocket sequences. Learning about the teachers who modified these series, their intentions, and how they remixed the system of ashtanga vinyasa. Each of these practices will be challenging for the student and teacher but are always shared in a way that encourages accessibility. Finally combining what we have learned about The ROOTS we REFLECT.

What works for you?

How can you challenge yourself intelligently?

How can you deepen the sensitivity and connection to self?

How do you find your FLOW STATE?

This is the REVOLUTION that leads to your EVOLUTION OF FLOW.

This will be a fun and exciting weekend led by Danielle Murray (E-RYT 500, YACEP, RCYT) assisted by Leah Liew (RYT 300) and Thomas Murray (RYT 200) We will break down the primary and second series of Ashtanga Yoga in depth as well as Rocket 1 (Foundation Power Flow) and Rocket 2 & 3 (Advanced Power Flow-2hr practices), which are based upon set sequence methods. Learn how to create new sequences and approaches based on the Ashtanga and Evolved Sequences to build intelligent, balanced flow sequences. You will also receive a manual containing course material and sequences to aid you in your personal practice and/or teaching evolution.
